French Record Companies Act

In a heavily disputed and protested decision it was announced “France tracking file sharing users“.  This means that French record companies are legally allowed to follow users of peer to peer file networks if they are sharing more than 50 files in any 24 hour period.  All of the files being tracked will have to be found to be legally shareable and distributable, meaning that they are not protected by copyright.  Otherwise those sharing the files could be found guilty of copyright violations.  With so many users on such networks and so many files being transferred these record companies have a big job ahead of them to filter through all the legal sharing to find those which are not.
