One of the most important tools in your climbing gear has to be the carabiner, it has many different uses including anchoring, belaying and racking tread gear. You need to make sure that these instruments are kept free of burrs that can cause your rope to fray and the best way is to use 220-400 grade sandpaper. Never ever file your carabiner, if the burr isn’t solved with sandpaper, get a new one. Always be sure to check your carabiners regularly for any kind of corrosion or cracks. A lot is riding on these relatively small devices and you need to make sure they’re up to the task.
