The Sinus tarsi syndrome

The relatively widespread ailment of the foot which could occur within two different situations is actually the Sinus tarsi syndrome. The sinus tarsi is a “tunnel” between the talus and calcaneus (heel bone) inside the rearfoot. Whenever the foot rolls out, as in an ankle sprain, the contents regarding this tunnel may get strained as well as the ankle sprain. The sinus tarsi syndrome often gets missed because of the pain of the ankle sprain. The other situation happens when the foot rolls inwards too much. This compresses the strictures throughout the sinus tarsi, causing symptoms. Both situations are usually treated with foot orthotics and physical therapy.
